Today’s learners favor acquiring technology support in their learning processes. They prefer this not only in access to learning materials but also in the control, monitor and evaluation processes of their learning processes. This demand of learners heads to many technological innovations.
Intelligent learning systems, especially in this respect, are among the topics most emphasized over the past decade.
Intelligent tutoring system (ITS) is a computer system that aims to provide immediate and customized instruction or feedback to learners, usually without requiring intervention from a human teacher. It also can tolerant faults and correct them by itself, it is adaptable and it has context-situation awareness with seamless integration.
These features are the main signs for us to start working on LIS.
LIS project, which is developed within the scope of intelligent learning systems in Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), is included. UOC has a heterogeneous campus where different specialties (knowledge areas) are taught and also It is a fully online university. Therefore, it has a wide range of students with different learning styles.
The main objective of this project (LIS) is to develop an adaptive system to be globally applicable at UOC campus to help students to succeed in their learning process. LIS supposed to be widely applicable to all types of courses and independently of the learning resources and contents. It mainly has predictive analytics, predictive progression dashboard, automated feedback and recommendations, and also gamification features designed upon Artificial Intelligence.
